Buckland House Description

Nestling in a sheltered valley among the rolling hills two miles inland from Slapton Sands, a little further to the popular Blackpool Sands, Buckland House is an elegant Grade II listed Georgian farmhouse built sometime before 1750 and largely rebuilt in the Regency style as a gentleman farmer's residence in 1860.
The large house has received a complete restoration to a very high standard and now includes a conservatory overlooking the ponds and gardens with a view towards Dartmoor. Offering high quality accommodation for two or more families, tastefully furnished in keeping with the period of property, this lovely family home offers an opportunity to enjoy a holiday in comfortable surroundings and large private gardens.
There are duvets, bed linen & towels supplied and the beds made up in advance. A travel cot and high chair are available. Oil fired central heating, electricity and telephone for local and incoming calls all included in the price.

Buckland House is suitable for up to 14 people, a "Celebration House" that attracts guests for anniversaries and weddings. The grounds are available to hire for any function and can accommodate a marquee seating up to 80 guests.
Special arrangements can be made for larger parties sharing some of Buckland Court's cottages.
The front gated garden is around one acre and includes private parking for up to 8 cars.The rear gardens of around two acres include ponds, waterfall and barbeque areas for our guests enjoyment.

The area is relatively undiscovered region of South Devon located south of Dartmoor and south west of Torquay and is of exceptional beauty and contrast — a rural patchwork of fields, woodlands, rivers, estuaries, rolling hills and moorland which surround historic towns and pretty villages. Much of the spectacular coastline and countryside has been protected, with it's sweeping beaches and private coves along the sixty miles of spectacular coastline is ideal for an active family holiday, walking holidays or weekend short breaks.
The southerly location and warm Gulf Stream air ensure one of the mildest climates in the whole of Britain. The summers are long, autumns warm and winters mild, so that you can enjoy a visit at any time of the year.

Buckland House is located in a tranquil sheltered valley surrounded by delightful countryside halfway between two of the West country's most popular sailing centres of Salcombe and the river Dart and one and a half miles inland from the historic village of Slapton, with its world famous Slapton Ley nature reserve and Slapton Sands, the three-mile beach that stretches from Torcross to Strete Gate.
Buckland Court self catering holiday cottages and Buckland House having been developed to a high standard from an old West Country farmyard complex and are attractively situated around two pretty flower filled courtyards.An archway opens onto delightful secluded valley gardens with waterfall and spring fed duck ponds in over two acres of grounds with badminton/cricket area, plus built-in barbecues. For alfresco meals, there's a cafe table and chairs in the sunken part of the garden near the waterfall with views down the wooded valley and over the fields. In spring, it's full of snowdrops, bluebells and pink campions.

The South Hams offers something for everyone; the area is a Mecca for rambling, bird-watching, swimming, surfing, horse riding, golf and those interested in fishing, boating, sailing and windsurfing. Or just chill out and have fun by visiting our local Gastro pubs and restaurants.

Buckland is only 10 minutes away from the Blue Flag beach at Blackpool Sands and about 20 minutes from a surfing beach at Bantham, as well as eleven of the best natural beaches to be found anywhere in the UK including, Slapton Sands, Beesands, Lannacombe, East Portlemouth and Bantham and five river estuaries including the Dart, Avon, Yealm, Erme and Gara.
There is easy access to the South West Coast Path for walking and the wilderness of Dartmoor for walking, climbing and riding.
There are many historic NT houses to visit including Agatha Christie's Greenway as well as a local vineyard (with award-winning wines) at Sharpham.

A great House for a large family group

"This was a lovely big house for a large family like ours to stay the, conservatory and garden was great and having under floor heating was a plus. The location is so good to reach so many interesting places near at hand. It is really well equipped to cater for a large group. Bar billiards was a great hit also. All in all a great place to stay."

Games room & all accommodation was suitable for 3 generations of a family ages ranging from 23 to 84 years! We all had a great time. The Queens Arms at Slapton village provided excellent home cooked food."
